New Workshop – Off Camera Flash On Location

24 09 2010

Hi Folks

I’m very excited to announce a new workshop that I have been designing for the past month.  This is ideal for landscape/Seascape photographers who want to take their photography to the next level by including models/people in their “scapes”. The title of the workshop is called

I am confident that this is going to be the best workshop that I have designed and run yet…. It is going to be a blast with 4 separate shooting sessions featuring two models, a great makeup artist, and a very experienced second instructor.  You can check out all the details of this workshop by clicking on this link.

The first workshop for November 7th has already filled up and I’m currently planning a second workshop for later in November, so please email me if you would like to be part of the fun.

Photoshop Tutorial – Finishing Images with black frames

19 09 2010

Today I ran a seascape workshop, and I promised the participants that I would upload a screencapture of how I finish my images with the black frames.  So here is a nice simple tutorial on the my workflow for creating finished web images with black frames and titles.

I hope you enjoy this.

Having Fun With Smoke

12 09 2010

Yesterday a few of us went out to the Old Dunlop Factory and made these images with model Zoe Rayne.

We used pretty simple lighting gear (3 speedlights for the first shot) and a single speedlight for the last shot.   We gelled the key light with a full cut of CT O and set our cameras on Tungsten White Balance which through the background into a nice eirie blue.  I borrowed a smoke machine and rented a small generator and we had a lot of fun playing around.  For those of you that like the “behind-the-scenes” videos, I hope you enjoy this one.

Music is by Arcade Fire and the track is called “We Used to Wait”

Enjoy

Can You Help?

6 09 2010

Hi Everyone

I’ve been publishing lots of tutorials and videos sharing my photographic knowledge for free.  I hope that many of you have picked up some useful tips and tricks.  I hope that now I can parlay some of that goodwill into a fantastic cause.

I’m currently raising money for World Homeless Day which is on 10/10/10.  Our company is organising a huge fund raising event in conjunction with Mission Australia to raise funds for the homeless.  Over 100,000 people are homeless, and almost half of these are under 25 years old.

So how can you help?  Two ways….

1) I’d really love to for as many of you as possible to come and sleep out in Centennial Park with me.  We are hoping there will be over 1,000 people sleeping out in the park.  There are going to be buskers, and people everywhere… could be some great photo opportunities for some night photography. For those of you that want to come and join me, I’ll run an informal night photography and light painting workshop for free.  You can sleep out in tents etc.  you don’t need to sleep on cardboard box.

2) If you can’t make the sleepout, then perhaps you can click this button to make a small donation.

Any amount that you can donate will help me reach the target.  All funds raised go to Mission Australia to help the homeless.

This is a really worthwhile cause,  I hope that you can help out.

If you are planning to come along, please register at this link and then post a comment below in my blog.
